São Jorge, the Brown Island, due to the Ponta dos Rosais, surrounded to the north by Graciosa, Terceira, and to the south by Faial and Pico – São Jorge, with its 53 km in length, is an enchanting balcony in the Atlantic overlooking the seductive summit of Pico. On a full moon night, the channel glows and the summit provides the rest of the cinematic backdrop.
São Jorge is known for its delicious cheese, a strong cheddar, but everything about the island is truly moving: its beauty, its people.
Its Fajãs (coastal plains at the foot of slopes 400 to 700 meters high) are very special, which is why they are part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
