Characterized by a coastline that is very indented and extremely steep, Flores combines under the element of water: waterfalls, lagoons, streams, and pools form a catalog of unforgettable experiences, seemingly concentrating within itself all the natural beauty found dispersed throughout the other islands of the Archipelago.
In Winter, with the difficulties of heading out to sea in search of the abundant fish, pork often served as sustenance. "Cozinhada de porco" remains a testimony to that time: pork meat in brine, after being soaked, is boiled and served with potatoes and cabbage. Yam with sausage and watercress soup join the most traditional menu of Flores. The cured cheese produced on the island features a soft paste with a firm texture.
